Thirteen Men Installed as Lectors

The thirteen men in formation for the diaconate were installed as Lectors on Sunday, July 10, at St. Mary in Riverside. The men and their wives had spent Saturday on retreat in preparation for the Rite. The retreat master, Fr. Brendan Moss, OSB, a Benedictine of St. Meinrad Archabbey, encouraged those gathered to spend time praying the scriptures, so as to be doers and not just hearers of the word.

Bishop Amos prepares to bless the thirteen candidates.

Lord God, source of all goodness and light, you sent your only Son, the Word of life, to reveal to mankind the mystery of your love.
Bless + our brothers who have been chosen for the ministry of lector. Grant that as they meditate constantly on your word they may grow in its wisdom and faithfully proclaim it to your people.
Dan Huber, of the Cathedral Parish, is handed a copy of the Scriptures by Bishop Amos, as Deacons McCoy and Agnoli look on.

"Take this book of holy Scripture and be faithful to handing on the word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people."

The thirteen newly-instituted Lectors are pictured here with Bishop Amos, Deacons McCoy and Agnoli, and Fr. Moss.
