News
The Inquiry process for Class VI of the Deacon Formation Program is progressing well. We have nineteen applications in hand already and we hear that at least four more are "on their way." Let us keep these men and their families in prayer as they listen to God's call....and let us keep our Admissions and Scrutinies Committee in Prayer as they make their recommendations to Bishop Amos.
SCAP Study Day
A Deacon Study Day on Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of a Priest is being planned for June 21, 2008, from 9am to noon at St. Mary Church in Oxford. Details are found on the Liturgy Events Page. Click on this link to read the letter addressed to deacons.
The SCAP Study Day will include a social in the afternoon--the Deacon Council will provide the meat for cooking out; just bring the "extras" and let us know if you are coming. Wives and families can spend the morning just visiting at the parish house or can take the opportunity to make a trip to the Amana Colonies or other nearby sites. Summer Workshop Series Offered by The Institute for the Diaconate at the Josephinum Continuing formation, as a process, has received renewed emphasis in recent years. The Josephinum is committed to providing opportunities for experienced deacons to consider, to learn, and to reflect on their roles in the life of the Church. To this end, two three-day workshops designed especially for permanent deacons will be offered in summer 2008. Join us for these opportunities to enhance, advance, and reanimate your pre-ordination formation, already received and lived out, in all of its dimensions. Click here for a more information. The annual deacon retreat is scheduled for October 17-19, 2008, at the Lodge in Bettendorf. The retreat master will be Father Marty Goetz, director of vocations for our diocese. Registration information will be posted here once it becomes available.
