Youth Ministry Leaders from across the Diocese meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. The site of the meeting has changed to the parish offices of St. Thomas More in Iowa City. To get to the parish from Dubuque St. (south on exit 244 if coming from I-80), go west on E. Park Road, then left on Riverside, right on Grove St. (the church is at Riverside and Grove). Park in the lot south of church; we meet downstairs in the church building. Certificate Program in Youth Ministry Studies This nationally recognized training program for youth ministry leaders will again be offered this summer at St. Ambrose University. This is a premier Catholic training program for youth ministry leaders. These will be offered this summer. Diocesan Junior High Youth Rally The 2009 Junior High Youth rally will be held March 29 at the Iowa Memorial Union.
June 22-24, 2008 - CIA is a three-day diocesan youth service retreat. Our home base is St. Mary's Riverside. This annual retreat is an opportunity to learn about Catholic Social Teaching, serve at sites in and around the central part of our diocese, praise and worship God, and have fun with new friends. It is open to youth in grades 9-12, including incoming freshman and graduating seniors. Then they're sent out to parish teams to serve at dozens of agencies in the central part of our diocese. Christian Leadership Institute (CLI) The Christian Leadership Institute or CLI is a week-long training event designed to teach young people the skills necessary for effective leadership with other youth and adults in a parish or school youth ministry setting. CLI offers an offers and opportunity for leadership development through the intense period of learning and community living. The program is an in-depth experience of skills development in the areas of organization, communication, and motivation, as well as personal growth which enables young person to discover his or her own leadership style.
CLI will be again be offered twice this summer. The dates are July 6-11 at Twin Lakes Christian Center near Manson, and July 20-25 at Christian Conference Center near Newton. CLI is a weeklong training event designed to teach young people the skills necessary for effective leadership with other youth and adults in the parish or school youth ministry setting.

Who should attend? Young people age 15-18, who are preparing to enter at least their sophomore year of high school. Each candidate should be either currently involved with or beginning a leadership role in a parish, school, or diocese.
Adult Youth Ministers, parish pastoral and school personnel. CLI is a highly valuable learning experience for the adult. Adults are expected to be present for the entire week and participate fully in the CLI process.

What are the components of CLI? Skill Workshops: Each day includes a large group workshop on one of these leadership skills:
Support Groups: Throughout the week, CLI provides and opportunity for participants to practice these new skills working in small groups. The small group is also a place to share insights on special topics such as:
Prayer, Workshop and Social Time: Each day there is time for recreation and relaxation, prayer and the Eucharist, and getting to know other youth throughout the state of Iowa.
Diocesan Youth Ministry Committee (DYMC)
Applications for 2008-2009 are now available on in the Faith Formation Library or on the DYMC page.
The DYMC is a group of 18 youth who work with adult leaders to provide leadership and promote comprehensive youth ministry across our diocese. Three youth representatives are elected from each deanery. These youth must be sophomores, juniors or seniors, and should have attended the Christian Leadership Institute. NCYC 2009 will be held Nov. 19-21 in Kansas City, MO. Registration information will be available soon.
Christ in Others retreats are for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. COR is a weekend full of personal reflection about family and relationships with other people in our lives. A faith-filled experience of fun and friendship.

QUEST is an overnight retreat for freshman & sophomores that helps you to focus on loving yourself, loving others and loving God. It's a chance to get away from your regular routine, meet new people, talk about important issues, and have fun!

National Evangelization Team (NET): NET will present retreats in our diocese in the 2008-2009 school year. NET does retreats for high school and junior high youth, including Confirmation retreats.
NET
Ministries will send a team to our diocese next January 13 -
February 2, 2009. The team will be available to parishes and schools
for 18 days (not including Jan. 13, Jan. 15, Jan. 22, Jan. 29 or
Feb. 2). For more information about the National Evangelization Team
and its services, please go to
www.netusa.org. The team is
not available for retreats on Mondays, and can do only one retreat
per day (or evening).
