Welcome to the Youth Ministry page! On this page you will find information about "big church events" like our diocesan youth rallies and the National Catholic Youth Conference, retreat opportunities, leadership training for youth and adults, and other services the diocese provides to youth and their families.
You can explore more about youth ministry at www.davenportyouth.org. This page you're reading now is geared toward adults who lead parish youth ministry efforts, providing forms for events and links to youth ministry resources.
Youth Ministry is our church's response to the needs of today's adolescents. It's about forming youth as disciples, engaging them in responsible participation in the church, and helping their personal and spiritual growth. For more about Catholic Youth Ministry, go to www.nfcym.org/catholicym.

Diocesan Youth Ministry Committee (DYMC) Applications for 2009-2010 are now available on in the Faith Formation Library or on the DYMC page.
The DYMC is a group of 18 youth who work with adult leaders to provide leadership and promote comprehensive youth ministry across our diocese. Three youth representatives are elected from each deanery. These youth must be sophomores, juniors or seniors, and should have attended the Christian Leadership Institute. The group meets five times a year at locations around the diocese. For more information, email Pat Finan, or call 641-842-5148.
"Christ Reigns," the 2009 National Catholic Youth Conference, will be held in Kansas City, MO, November 19-21, 2009. More than 20,000 Catholic youth, including nearly 800 from our diocese, will gather for a 3-day celebration of our Catholic faith, and we hope the youth of your parish will join us. Here is all the information you'll need to get started on this journey of faith.
Youth Participation Opportunities include Youth Animators and Youth Ambassadors. Animators use their performance skills (singing, dancing, drama) on the big stage in front of all 20,000+ participants. Youth wishing to serve as animators must apply and send an audition video. They are required to attend a rehearsal this summer in Kansas City and must devote much of their time during NCYC to this ministry. If you're interested in becoming a animator, email Pat Finan for a video explaining what animators do, and click here for an application: Animator Link
Ambassadors use public speaking skills to lead prayer and introduce speakers during breakout and concurrent sessions at NCYC, involving between a few hundred and several thousand participants. If you're interested in becoming an ambassador, click here for an application: Ambassador Link
Codes of Conduct: All youth and adult participants must read and sign a code of conduct regarding their behavior at NCYC. Here they are:
Other forms:
Parishes that didn't attend NCYC in 2007 and would like a promotional video can contact butterworthb@davenportdiocese.org to request one.
Additional resources, such as creative fund-raising ideas and tips on forming your parish adult team, will be posted here soon. For now, please review the following codes of conduct. These will be helpful in ensuring that your youth and adults understand from the outset what kind of behavior is expected of them in Kansas City. Email Pat Finan or call (641) 842-5148 for more information.
Christ in Others retreats are for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. COR is a weekend full of personal reflection about family and relationships with other people in our lives. A faith-filled experience of fun and friendship.
QUEST is an overnight retreat for freshman & sophomores that helps you to focus on loving yourself, loving others and loving God. It's a chance to get away from your regular routine, meet new people, talk about important issues, and have fun!
National Evangelization Team (NET): Retreats will be offered in our diocese December 4-16. If you are interested in hosting NET at your parish or school, please email Pat Finan as soon as possible. Parishes and schools requesting dates are asked to provide their top THREE dates; at least one of these dates should not be a weekend date. Mondays are not available. For more information about NET, please go to www.netusa.org.
NET (National Evangelization Teams) Ministries has asked if parishes and schools in our diocese would like to host NET retreats in 2009-2010. In recent years, we’ve been offering this opportunity every year. You can find out more about NET retreats (including themes and costs) at www.netusa.org/netprograms Also, below my signature, you’ll find a compilation of comments from parish leaders in our diocese who hosted NET this year.
What I need to know for now is: · Would your parish or school be interested in hosting NET this year? · How many retreat days/nights would you be interested in hosting? · Which month works best for you?
Youth Minister Leader Retreats: April 19-21 at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat Center near Wheatland. Our retreat leader will be Fr. Marty Goetz. More information will be sent to parish youth ministry leaders soon.
Help Youth Ministry with Your Online Searches: Use Goodsearch, a Yahoo search engine, to search online and the diocese gets a penny for each search. Start by going to www.goodsearch.com. You'll see two fiends. In the second, type in Diocese of Davenport and hit the verify button. Then start searching! The site also gives simple directions to put Goodsearch in your toolbar or make it your home page, making searching even easier. Every search you do earns a cent for diocesan youth ministry programs.
