Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)

Is an anti-poverty program to empower the poor to move beyond poverty.  CCHD is supported by private donations.  The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic bishops. It was founded in 1969 with two purposes.  The first purpose was to raise funds to support "organized groups of white and minority poor to develop economic strength and political power." The second purpose was to "educate the People of God to a new knowledge of today's problems . . . that can lead to some new approaches that promote a greater sense of solidarity.  By helping the poor to participate in the decisions and actions that affect their lives, CCHD empowers them to move beyond poverty.

Saint Vincent Home Corporation

Since 1895, St. Vincent Home has cared for children.  As an orphanage, as a relocation center for displaced youngsters, as a residential treatment center for emotionally disabled adolescents, and as a child-placing agency through Catholic Charities, St. Vincent Home helped children in need.

In 1973, the board of St. Vincent Home changed the focus of its child care effort, closed the institution and determined to broaden its services both geographically and programmatically.  It established the St. Vincent Home Corporation, which, as resources permit, makes selective loans or grants to projects which further the original purpose of St. Vincent Home.

St. Vincent Home Corporation Board also provides oversight to SHARE, Iowa.  SHARE builds community by offering grocery packages at half price to anyone who volunteers for two hours.

Articles of Incorporation, By-laws and Minutes

The current Articles of Incorporation, By-laws, and minutes of SVHC are located in the minute binder kept in the Director of Social Action’s office and in the minute binder kept in the CFO’s office.  Older documents are kept in the vault.
