Order of Baptism of Children, 2nd Edition

On November 14, 2017, the United States Bishops canonically approved the new translation of the Order of Baptism of Children. This included an Appendix which more clearly delineates the rite within Mass. On April 11, 2019, the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments approved and confirmed the revised text of the Order of Baptism of Children). All the textual amendments made by the USCCB to the ICEL text were confirmed by the CDWDS as well as five adaptations approved by the USCCB (OBC 24):

• The text of an optional introduction
• The addition of a simple acclamation after each baptism
• Rubrics which incorporate previous adaptations made in previous USCCB editions
• An option to expand the Litany of the Saints
• A new appendix with the Baptism of Children within Mass (with a detailed outline)

On June 10, 2019 (the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church), Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, President of the USCCB, issued a Decree of Publication.

A note on the bilingual editions: The current Spanish-only books (2009) remain valid to use. These new bilingual editions correct some of the Spanish, so are an improvement... but the previous Spanish-only books can still be used.
