The Congregation of the Sisters of Emmanuel is quite indigenous and was founded in 1989, in the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a, in Kenya. One of their Social Ministry programs they run is a vocational training center, known as the Emmanuel Skill Centre. Its aim is to alleviate the dignity of the vulnerable girls and empower them. During the COVID-19 pandemic many girls became pregnant and dropped out of school. Because of this situation the Sisters of Emmanuel created the Vocational Training Center to engage the girls in a useful productive way. The main purpose of this project is to empower and change the mindset of the vulnerable girls from oppressive social structure and help them cut down the chain of poverty. Skill that the center provides are Dressmaking, Knitting, hairdressing, bead work. Also provide computer literacy classes.
