OCIA Workshops

We’ve invited Liturgy Training Publications to offer a series of both live and virtual formation sessions as we prepare to implement the new translation of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).

In-Person Sessions this Fall
“The New Translation of the OCIA: An Opportunity to Re-envision Catechumenal Ministry” 
Intended for clergy and for OCIA team leaders and members. Please plan on attending! 
In addition to surveying the changes in the OCIA ritual text, the Christian initiation ministry coordinators, teams, and catechists will assess their current practice of ministry and be inspired to take a renewed approach. 
 
Each session will last 3 hours, and will include a closing meal and time for networking:
 Saturday, November 16, at St. Mary in Pella: 9:30am – 12:30pm
 Sunday, November 17, at St. Patrick in Iowa City: 2:00pm – 5:00pm
 
Virtual Sessions after the New Year

For those unable to make it to the in-person workshops, or who find that they need a “refresher” before Lent, we will be offering three virtual sessions in January 2025.
 
On the evening of Thursday, January 23, we will offer a 90-minute version of the workshop in both English and Spanish.  The sessions will run from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. 

Además de examinar los cambios en el texto ritual de RICA, los coordinadores, equipos y catequistas del ministerio de la iniciación cristiana de su diócesis evaluarán cómo realizan su ministerio y se inspirarán para adoptar un enfoque renovado. 

In addition, during the afternoon of Tuesday, January 21 (1:30pm-3:00pm), we will offer a special virtual session for clergy: “Preparing for the OCIA: Changes in Translation, Opportunities for Renewal.” 
 
In this workshop, clergy will have the chance to examine the newly translated ritual text and consider the ways they can implement the vision of the OCIA throughout all parish life, thus renewing the life-giving fire of the catechumenate.
 
These opportunities are being co-sponsored by the Office of Liturgy and the Office of Faith Formation.
There will be no charge to participants.
